Description
Chimneys Picnic Area is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to spend a relaxing afternoon in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nestled in the heart of the park, this area is situated right next to the West Prong Little Pigeon River, offering visitors a serene and picturesque setting for their picnic.
The one-way paved loop road boasts 68 picnic sites, each equipped with a heavy-duty grill and a picnic table, all within a charming wood-framed gravel picnic area. Many of these sites are located right next to the river, providing a soothing ambiance as you enjoy your meal. On hot days, take a refreshing dip in the swift-moving water to cool off.
For those looking to stretch their legs, the trailhead for Cove Hardwood Nature Trail is accessible near the entrance to the picnic area. This short 0.8-mile lollipop trail takes less than half an hour to complete and offers stunning views of the surrounding nature. Parking for the trail is conveniently located next to the trailhead.
When nature calls, restrooms are located nearby, complete with flushable toilets and potable running water. However, it's always a good idea to bring some toilet paper just in case the restrooms are out of stock.
Overall, Chimneys Picnic Area is a fantastic spot to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Whether you're looking for a peaceful picnic or a quick hike, this area has something for everyone.
