Description
The Illinois Central Missouri River Double Swing Bridge was constructed in 1893. Originally a single swing bridge when built, a couple of renovations completed in the earlier 1900s turned it into a double swing bridge and it was noted in 1975 as the worlds third longest swinging bridge. In 1980 the bridge was taken out of service. Due to a study in the 1990s the structure is to remain in place in case of issues with the current bridge structure.
